Postmortem

Successes

We completed the beta version of the game successfully within the time period and improved the gameplay by taking measures mentioned in the Development Process and Play Testing. We made a trailer for the game, built models for the main characters, and improved the scenes in the game. We also made the game to be a 3-level game that has increasing difficulty.

Challenges

Main challenge we face is to make the game challenging but intuitive at the same time. In the beginning, the game was too hard even for us due to dim environment, fast-moving enemy, and insensitive camera rotation. We have updated the game to improve the pain points. Now the map includes torches with fire to provide more light. The player can better its position by collecting a fruit to increase its speed or frozen the position of all other characters. What's more, we provide a slider to allow user to adjust the rotating speed of the camera.

What you learned

Working on this project, we learned how to build a game on mobile platforms (iOS in our case) and use virtual joysticks to collect inputs from players. Moreover, we challenged ourselves by making a video trailer that could tell the background story as well as demonstrate the main mechanics in a scary and tense mood that matches our games. Thus, the players could understand this game better through this video rather than reading plain texts.

Possible future revisions

There are many more revisions we would like to make but do not have time to make it happen. In terms of new mechanics, we would like to add more mechanics to ghosts with different colors. With these new mechanics, we could have more options to increase the hardness. Thus, the game can be more challenging as well as having more varsity and interesting ways of gameplay. Nevertheless, a minimap could be added as an option. Players could choose to turn on or turn off the minimap based on their preference. Thus, for players that would like to challenge themselves, they could explore the maze on their own. Yet, for players that may struggle with finding the path in the maze, this minimap function could ease the hardness of the game for them.
